“The road to success is not straight. There is a curve called Failure, a loop called Confusion, speed bumps called Friends, red lights called Enemies, caution lights called Family. You will have flat tires called Jobs, but if you have a spare called Determination, an engine called Perseverance, a driver called Will Power, you will make it to a place called Success.”
It’s funny how we think the path to success lies between point A and point B, and that our journey to reach our destination will follow a straight, linear line.
Of course that’s not how it actually works.
For me, the path to success usually consists of several loops back to previous points, steep climbs, steep descents into valleys, with short sprint at the end. I used to get discouraged by this.
But I’ve come to accept that’s how life works. We roll with the punches and keep on keepin’ on, right?
Here are four things you’ll experience on your road to success:
Frustration is par for the course on your path to success. You will have seemingly difficult thinks you have to overcome along the way. I say “seemingly difficult” because these circumstances are there really tests. They’re there to stretch you and make you grow.
Frustration should be taken in stride and not something you allow to get you down. I’m not saying that being frustrated doesn’t suck… but its a necessary part of the journey that must be dealt with, regardless of how we feel.
People Won’t Understand
I could write a book on this point alone… if I had a dollar for every time someone’s eyes glossed over when I tried to explain my vision, I would be one rich woman.
It’s not so bad when people don’t understand what it is you want to do. It becomes a roadblock when those who don’t understand drown you in their negativity.
Because they don’t believe in it, they don’t want you to do it. For the most part, our family and friends want to protect us and for us to be successful. However, sometimes this negativity stems from their own failures and fears and have nothing to do with you.
Don’t waste your energy trying to figure it all out. Just know that as long as YOU understand, you’re fine. Let that negativity roll off your back, like water on a duck.
Did you know that the mind actually LIKES to be distracted?
Your mind likes to be stimulated… it likes new data and for you to constantly feed your senses. So concentrating on one thing for an extended period of time is hard.
But you must do it in order to succeed. You will surely waste time and energy by allowing yourself to get distracted and moving away from your path.
You Must Overcome Them All
Everyone that achieves success must overcome the first three things.
Look at it as a rite of passage to your goal. You have to expect them and prepare to face them. If you don’t, when circumstances arise they could cause you to get off track and struggle to get back on.
